Learning Journeys with Joanna

The taste of travels, memories of fragrances and vivid pictures of the places and people I had the chance to encounter – all of that inspires me to create learning journeys to support intercultural dialog, the development of intercultural sensitivity and cultural intelligence and flourishing across cultures.

In my retreats, leadership programs and coaching sessions for corporate clients and various organizations I combine storytelling, art and development of intercultural competencies with various coaching methods.

Why This Mosaic of Approaches?

I have decided for this mosaic of approaches as a great deal of intercultural programs focus on gaining awareness: becoming aware of one’s biases and examples from different cultural contexts. While awareness and knowledge may lead to increased empathy and openness towards the “unknown”, “different”, “foreign”, there is no evidence that they lead to behavior change.

I believe in the transformational power of stories, shared across cultures and generations to enhance cooperation in teams, in human-centric meetings, and development of leadership skills.

I bring passion for creating inclusive and innovative learning surroundings and coaching sessions where you can improve your skills, build resilience, develop intercultural sensitivity and learn how to flourish in the intercultural world.

Creating an inclusive culture requires knowledge and the ability to expand our own comfort zone additionally to developing cultural, emotional and adaptation intelligence.

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.

Maya Angelou

With this guidance by Maya Angelou, I have designed art adventures, combining my passion for art, coaching and storytelling across cultures. My master studies in Art History, European Studies and Intercultural Communication enriched by two coaching programs and two certifications in positive leadership are the key of working at this intersection.

Whenever I facilitate art adventures or host story art cafés with playing positive leadership cards, the participants report that they have experienced aha moments, have enjoyed sharing stories and learnt something new about themselves and about other perspectives.

It’s incredible how paintings help to reflect and focus the conversation and evoke emotions. As for me, I am definitely going to change some of my narratives.

Veronica de la Fuente (Chile, Switzerland)

What a wonderful treat (and also a shake to my brain!) to get a fresh perspective on how our dominant narratives are both shaping and being shaped by the images we consume. I really enjoyed this fusion of art, story and conversation.

Mary Alice Arthur (USA, New Zealand)

The artworks on the cards were carefully chosen to be inclusive of many different cultures and experiences, making the experience feel accessible to people worldwide.

Pamela Pescosolido

There was something powerful about choosing a card without knowing why —being drawn to an image intuitively — and then using that as a starting point for reflection. It created a safe and open space to share, which made it easier to explore vulnerability and stay present in the moment.
